Human spiritual care · In development

You don't have to make sense of it alone.

Sesshin is building one-to-one support for people facing serious illness, caregiving, grief and major life changes. We want the right conversation to reflect your language, culture and worldview—including no religious belief.

Where we are

Sesshin is not booking sessions today. We're speaking with people and practitioners as we shape a small first pilot.

Why this matters

Some questions need more than an answer.

Sesshin takes its name from a Japanese word meaning “to touch the heart-mind.” The spirit of the name is simple: meet the person, not just the problem.

When life becomes uncertain, it can be hard to find someone who will listen without rushing to fix, explain or judge. We're exploring a way to make that kind of presence easier to reach.

Serious illness

Living with a diagnosis, difficult treatment decisions or an uncertain future.

Caregiving

Caring deeply for someone while carrying your own exhaustion, fear or loneliness.

Dying and grief

Facing the end of life or finding your way through loss, at your own pace.

Major change

When identity, belonging or meaning shifts and familiar answers no longer fit.

What we're building toward

A thoughtful connection, with clear boundaries.

The pilot is still taking shape. These are the principles guiding it—not promises about a service already operating.

01 / The person

Real human presence

Conversations with qualified spiritual-care practitioners, rather than an AI imitation of companionship.

02 / The fit

Context matters

Language, culture, faith or no faith, and what kind of support feels right to you should inform a match.

03 / The scope

Honest expectations

Spiritual care can accompany difficult experiences. It does not replace therapy, medical treatment or crisis services.

The founder

Connie Shea

MSW, RSWVancouver, British Columbia

Connie is a registered social worker with more than 20 years of experience in community healthcare, gerontology, caregiving and end-of-life support.

Sesshin grew from seeing a familiar gap: clinical care can be essential, yet people still need space to talk about the human and spiritual dimensions of what they're living through. This venture is being developed separately from Connie's counselling practice.
